Consumers
and the Internet: 2000 Holiday and Beyond
March
5, 2001
According
to a BIGresearch survey of 11,000 online consumers in the US, 45.2%
bought gifts online during the 2000 holiday season. BIGresearch
found that 14.4% of e-consumers shop online regularly (at least
once a month).
BIGresearch
also found that only a small percentage (9.1%) of internet shoppers
spent 75% or more of their holiday budget online and 10% spent between
51% and 74% of their budget online.

The
survey asked consumers how often they shopped online other than
during the holidays -- 65.2% reported that they "occasionally"
e-shopped.

Consumers
still find the convenience of shopping online to be the most appealing
aspect of e-retail -- 66.2% cited it as the greatest motivating
factor. Consumers also say they shop online because it is easy (41.0%)
and because the internet offers a wide variety of products (39.8%).

BIGresearch
found that 45.4% of online consumers are "very satisfied"
with shopping online.
